JAPANVERSE
🇯🇵@japanverse · Japan
Japan has 47 prefectures, but the number matters less than what it represents: extraordinary regional variety packed into one country.
Climate changes dramatically from north to south. Mountains divide communities. Seas connect port towns to different histories. Local ingredients shape local cooking. Dialects shift. Festivals, crafts and architecture respond to landscapes and livelihoods.
That means “Japan” is often too broad a category.
The ramen of one region can have little in common with another. A winter trip to Tohoku tells a different story from island-hopping in the Seto Inland Sea. A morning market, an industrial city and a pilgrimage trail can all reveal equally authentic versions of the country.
JAPANVERSE treats regions not as boxes on a map, but as doors.
Open enough of them and the idea of a single Japan disappears.
